See how flour is made at the neighbouring Town Mill then join Giselle to learn a cake recipe formula for all cakes (almost) and an upside-down sweet treat.

Experience

10-10.45am Mill Tour

This class starts with an exclusive guided tour of the adjoining Town Mill; a pre-Domesday water-powered mill dating back to at least 1340, the time of Edward III.

  • We will visit the Stone Floor, Sack Floor & Meal Floor
  • A miller will share about the history, restoration and present day working of the Mill
  • We will see the waterwheel in action, powering half-ton millstones grinding grain into flour
  • See a demonstration of the milling process and how flour is made the traditional way
  • Get hands-on, raising a sack hoist and milling grain

11am-1pm - Class

We will then move next door to Strawberry Tree and begin baking.

Together we will create:

  • A cake using Giselle’s magic cake formula

Learn how to make moist, delicious cakes, that are quick, easy and adaptable, all based on this simple formula. Choose your base ingredient - flour, polenta or gluten free.  Then choose your flavour, what will it be – chocolatey, nutty, fruity?

  • An Upside-down Orange & Cardamom cake

Sticky, citrussy and a real crowd-pleaser. Made with preserved oranges.

Giselle will demonstrate:

  • Preserved oranges - gooey and delicious

*A note about the discounted price for two people - this discount simply reflects two people sharing a workstation and the cooking tasks and takeaway goodies – no arguing, please!

NB. Please note that our workshops sometimes use induction hobs which are not recommended for people with pacemakers. Please contact us if you have any concerns.
