Do I need mad cooking skills or a special hat to join?
If you can't find an answer to your question here please don't hesitate to contact us or call.

Where are you based?

All of our cooking classes are hosted at Strawberry Tree restaurant in Lyme Regis, Dorset. You can find more information and a map on our contact page.

Why should I come on a cooking class?

Our classes are not formulaic, blandly sharing 'how-to-cook' basics - though they are excellent for beginners and confident cooks alike. Our classes are enjoyable, memorable and delicious experiences that take us to faraway shores via a shared love of food.

We are sure you will love the mix of guidance and storytelling, humour and hands-on work as we learn from each other and create wonderful goods to take home to share with loved ones or together at lunch.
These events create good opportunities to laugh and work together so are great for groups, birthdays, hen and stag dos. For these you can see our Bespoke Classes page.

Simply, we love creating community and conviviality around food and sharing food - just like the cultures from which we are from and are inspired by - in which food is very much central to family, friends and life. For more information see our Family Spirit page.

Do I need to have certain skills or knowledge to join a class?

Beginners as well as confident and refined cooks are welcome to all of our classes. All will learn something new and interesting and have a good time. In addition to Giselle the teacher, a helpful team will be on hand to answer any questions and support.

What should I wear?

Please wear closed, flat shoes (no open sandals or heels). Aprons are provided so come wearing whatever is comfortable for you although something that you wouldn't mind getting a bit messy is a good idea, just in case! The room can get warm with everyone cooking at once so layers are useful.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No - there's nothing to bring except a sense of humour and some food containers, if you can, to take your produce home with you. This helps us be more sustainable and give out less packaging - although we can provide what's needed for you.

Are breaks included during the class time?

Yes, including half hour break for those classes that include having lunch together. A great time to explore all that Lyme Regis Town Mill and surrounding artisans have to offer.

Do we eat while we are there?

Sometimes - some classes include an hour for lunch - during this time we eat the creations we made together during class time. These classes generally finish at 2pm.

Other classes do not include eating, but all your baked or cooked goods are wrapped up ready for you to take home. These classes generally finish at 1pm.

Do you cater for intolerences, allergies, dietary preferences?

As all of our classes are so different, please read each class description to see if any alternatives are possible. Some classes include naturally gluten free options, or a vegetarian option for example. Because we're a small family run business unfortunately we're not able to cater for everyone on every course. If you're concerned please do give us a call and chat through potential options with us. It's important to let us know if you or one of your party has an allergy or intolerance when you book.

Are your classes accessible for everyone?

Our restaurant and facilities are all accessible by wheelchair with no steps to navigate. Please contact us with your requirements and we'll do our best to accommodate everyone.

What about pacemakers and induction hobs?

For those with pacemakers - occasionally our classes include the use of induction hobs. Induction hobs generate electromagnetic fields, so it is recommended that you keep a distance of at least 60cm (2ft) between the stovetop and your pacemaker. If you are concerned or would like to check whether or not induction hobs will be used in the class you are interested in please call us on 01297 445757.
